Quick answer: Facebook lead ads can bring IVF and fertility clinics a steady flow of consultation enquiries, as long as the ads describe your clinic and services (never the viewer's situation), target adults 18+, use a short lead form with non-medical questions only, and follow up quickly but discreetly. Track booked consultations, not form fills, and send that signal back to Meta through the Conversions API (Meta CAPI). Indian law bans any advertising of sex selection, so keep every ad, form and message well away from it.

For a fertility clinic, Facebook marketing is a sensitive job. The people who enquire are often private about it, the rules are stricter than for most health services, and a clumsy callback can lose a patient's trust in the first minute. This guide walks through an inquiry campaign for an IVF clinic in India, step by step: the rules to check first, campaign setup, compliant creatives, a lead form that respects privacy, enquiry handling, and how to teach Meta's AI which enquiries actually booked a consultation.

This is marketing guidance, not legal or medical advice. Meta's policies and Indian rules for medical and ART advertising change, so confirm the current versions with a qualified adviser before you launch.

If you haven't read it yet, start with our broader Meta ads playbook for hospitals and clinics in India. This post builds on it for fertility and IVF centres specifically.

Step 1: Check the rules before you write a single ad

Meta's policies

  • 18+ targeting. Meta's Health and Wellness policy requires ads about reproductive health, family planning and fertility to be targeted to people aged 18 or older, and to focus on health rather than pleasure. If an ad promotes prescription treatments, Meta's Drugs and Pharmaceuticals policy applies too.
  • Never imply the viewer's condition. Meta's Privacy Violations and Personal Attributes policy does not allow ads that assert or imply someone's health or medical condition. Lines like "Struggling to conceive?" break this rule.
  • No health questions in the form. Meta's Advertising Standards don't allow lead-form questions about health or insurance without Meta's prior written permission.
  • No condition-based targeting. Meta removed detailed targeting options linked to sensitive health topics in January 2022, so you can't target people by fertility interest or condition. Location and broad audiences do the work instead.

Indian law

  • PCPNDT Act, 1994. Section 22 bans any advertisement, including on the internet, about pre-natal sex determination or pre-conception sex selection. The penalty includes imprisonment of up to three years and a fine.
  • ART (Regulation) Act, 2021. Section 26 says clinics must not offer to provide a child of pre-determined sex, and Section 32 bans advertising sex-selective ART in any manner, including the internet. Penalties under Section 32 include five to ten years in prison and/or a fine of ₹10–25 lakh.
  • Medical advertising and data. Doctors' advertising rules, the ASCI code and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 may also apply to your clinic. Get them reviewed by someone qualified rather than assuming that an ad Meta approved is legal in India.

In practice, that means no success rates or "take-home baby" claims, no promised outcomes, and no mention of gender in any ad, form, WhatsApp message or landing page.

Step 2: Set up an inquiry campaign built for consultations

  1. Own your assets. Keep the Facebook Page, ad account, Pixel/dataset and lead forms in the clinic's own Business Portfolio. Give your agency access, not ownership.
  2. Use the Leads objective with instant forms. When you plan to send lead quality back to Meta, choose the Conversion leads performance goal so Meta optimises for enquiries that turn into consultations. Read how the Conversion leads goal uses Meta's lead ID.
  3. Target adults near your centres. Set the age to 18+ and target the cities or radius you actually serve. Some patients are willing to travel for fertility care, so a wider radius than a general clinic may make sense.
  4. One campaign per offer. A first consultation, a second-opinion consultation and a free seminar or webinar bring different enquiries. Keep them separate so you can see which one produces booked consultations.
  5. Match budget to callback capacity. Your counsellors need time for careful, private conversations. Don't buy more enquiries than they can handle on the same day.

Step 3: Write creatives that describe the clinic, not the patient

AvoidUse instead
"Struggling to conceive?""Fertility consultations at our Pune clinic"
"Your IVF failed elsewhere?""Second-opinion consultations with a fertility specialist"
"Guaranteed results in one cycle""Meet our doctors and understand your options"
Success-rate percentagesDoctor qualifications, facilities, timings and how booking works
  • Lead with people and process. Short doctor-led videos explaining what happens at a first consultation build trust without making claims.
  • Be calm and factual. Avoid words like "best", "guaranteed" or "assured", and anything that plays on fear or pressure.
  • Repeat the offer on the form. The form intro should say exactly what the person is requesting, for example "Request a callback to book a fertility consultation at our Jaipur centre."

Step 4: Build a short, privacy-first lead form

Use the Higher intent form type, which adds a review step and usually filters out accidental submissions. We compare the options in Higher intent vs More volume.

Keep the custom questions non-medical and multiple choice:

  • Which centre is convenient for you?
  • Is this a first consultation or a second opinion?
  • Preferred consultation time: weekday morning / weekday evening / weekend
  • How should we contact you? Call / WhatsApp

Leave out medical history, how long someone has been trying, previous cycles, test results, treatments and insurance. Your counsellor or doctor can cover those privately later. For more ideas, see qualifying questions that filter junk leads, and if you want people to pick a preferred day, conditional questions and appointment requests.

Step 5: Handle every enquiry quickly and discreetly

A fertility enquiry deserves both speed and care. Simple rules for your team:

  • Call back fast, at the time they asked for. Respecting the preferred time matters more here than in most industries.
  • Confirm who you're speaking to. If someone else picks up, say only the clinic's name and ask when the person can talk. Don't discuss the enquiry with whoever answers.
  • Keep WhatsApp messages neutral. A first message like "Hi, this is Asha from [Clinic name], replying to your consultation request. When is a good time to talk?" works. Leave out treatment words that could be seen on a shared phone's lock screen.
  • Limit who sees the lead list. Only the people who call patients need access.

Marketing automation helps with the speed part. LeadSmart captures your Meta lead-ad enquiries and sends an instant WhatsApp alert to your clinic, so the counsellor on duty sees each enquiry straight away. Every enquiry also syncs to Google Sheets. If you want automated follow-up messages to the enquirers themselves, build them in your own tools through a webhook, as described in Facebook lead ads webhook with n8n. For WhatsApp marketing tips that suit sensitive services, read WhatsApp marketing for Facebook lead ads.

Step 6: Teach Meta which enquiries booked a consultation

This is where AI marketing helps a fertility clinic most. If Meta only ever sees form fills, it finds more people who fill forms. When it sees which enquiries were reached and booked, it can look for more people like them.

  1. Use simple, neutral stage labels: not reachable, not interested, callback scheduled, consultation booked, consultation attended.
  2. Label each enquiry after the first conversation.
  3. Map labels to Conversions API events. In LeadSmart you connect your Meta Pixel/dataset and map labels to CAPI events without a developer. The events include Meta's lead ID, so they work with the Conversion leads goal.

Never put treatment or condition details into label or event names. Meta restricts sharing sensitive health information and may filter events that look sensitive. Setup guides: Meta CAPI without a developer and sending lead quality back to Meta.

Step 7: Measure cost per booked consultation

Fertility decisions take time, so judge campaigns over weeks, not days. Track these for each campaign:

  • Enquiries, and % reached on the first attempt
  • % consultation booked and % attended
  • Cost per booked consultation

Use your own numbers, export them from the LeadSmart dashboard or the synced Google Sheet, and compare campaigns against each other rather than against benchmarks from other clinics.

FAQ

Can IVF clinics run Facebook and Instagram ads in India?

Yes, within Meta's policies and Indian law. Ads must target people 18 or older, must not imply the viewer's condition, and must never advertise or hint at sex selection, which the PCPNDT Act and the ART (Regulation) Act ban.

Can I show success rates in my IVF ads?

We recommend you don't. Success-rate claims are easy to misread as a promise of results, and no clinic can guarantee an outcome. Talk about your doctors, process and facilities instead, and get any claim checked by an adviser.

What can an IVF clinic ask in a Facebook lead form?

Preferred centre, first consultation or second opinion, preferred time and preferred contact method. Meta doesn't allow health or insurance questions in lead forms without prior written permission, so leave medical details for the private consultation.

Why aren't my fertility enquiries picking up the phone?

Often it's timing or privacy. Call at the time they chose, introduce yourself by clinic name only until you confirm who you're speaking to, and follow up with a short, neutral WhatsApp message. More ideas are in why Facebook leads don't answer calls.

Does LeadSmart message enquirers automatically?

No. LeadSmart sends instant WhatsApp alerts to your clinic. Automated follow-ups to enquirers can be triggered from your own tools, such as n8n, through a webhook.
